• JACK Ü & KANYE WEST AT COACHELLA 2016

Jack Ü’s headlining performance at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California brought an explosive and neon-fueled conclusion to the event’s first evening.

In addition to a wide host of guest appearances from the likes of AlunaGeorge and Post Malone, Skrillex and Diplo even managed to rope Kanye West onto the stage during a brief transition into “Power” after previously playing the introductory guest verse of Yeezus’s “Send It Up.”

  • SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA REMEMBERS THEIR FINAL FAREWELL

Yesterday three years ago today was one of the defining moments in EDM: a fond farewell to the group that had thrust the burgeoning genre into the limelight of radio play and the mainstream, Swedish House Mafia‘s Ultra 2013 performance and last show ever. Comprised of dance music icons AxwellSteve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso, there is no doubt that this trio will always be remembered for the impact they had on the world of music.

Yesterday the group took to Facebook to remember their final show, and perhaps hint at an eventual return – yeah, I’m reading that far into the excessive ellipses.

Although the last show has been removed on YouTube with any visual element, I was able to dig up another upload of the extraordinarily memorable set. But, be sure to watch it here below before the head honchos at Ultra issue a copyright strike on this one too.

  • Coachella & Stagecoach Expected To Generate $704 Million in 2016

During the 2016 year, more than $704 million will be collected by the global economy after Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival.

According to the projections by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and Greater Palm Springs Convention this past Tuesday, more than $403 million will directly benefit businesses in the Coachella Valley with at least $106 million going to businesses in Indio specifically.

In addition to these numbers, the city of Indio will bring in about $3.18 million in ticket taxes by an estimated 273,000 people coming to the Coachella Valley.

“I guess you could argue that we import money and we export, quite frankly, memories and some suntans,” said Michael Bracken, chief economist of Development Management Group. “We knew that the dollar amount figures were going to go up, but we weren’t realizing how much they were going to go up,” said Indio Mayor Glenn Miller.

  • Insomniac Claims Billion Dollar EDC Las Vegas Impact

The dance music community has come under fire over the past few years in the United States for a spate of drug related deaths and arrests. Insomniac Events, one the largest electronic dance music event promotors in North America, has decided to go on the public relations offensive. Insomniac has commissioned a study by Beacon Economics, an economic research and analytics firm based in California, to provide data on the economic impact that Insomniac’s flagship festival Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas has had on Las Vegas and surrounding area.

The results are rather stunning. According to the study, the festival, which took place between June 20-22 this past year, boosted the Clark County economy by $337.8 million. The annual event, which takes place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, has injected close to $1 billion into the local economy since it was forced to move to Vegas in 2011.

In a statement via Insomniac.com, the founder and CEO of Insomniac Events, Pasquale Rotella expressed his delight at the news.

“I’m so excited that a culture which started out years ago with such humble beginnings has evolved into a festival capable of generating almost $1 billion for Las Vegas and the surrounding areas,” said Pasquale Rotella, Insomniac’s Founder and CEO. “It’s really overwhelming when I think about it, and I’m grateful that our fans love a city that I hold so close to my heart and now call home.”

According to CBS’s Las Vegas affiliate, the economic impact has grown dramatically since 2011. In year one, Clark County saw $136 million flow into its coffers.

The impact expanded in 2012 and 2013 to $207 million and $278 million respectively.

The festival created a nice info graphic breaking the spending into various categories like retail, transportation and accommodation.
